The Roof Master 1.7KA is a self-propelled roof bolting rig developed in collaboration with J.H. Fletcher and KGHM Polska Miedź, designed for medium-height seams. Its fully automatic bolting mast installs both resin and mechanical bolts, including 1.6m bolts in workings from 2.3m height and 1.8m bolts in workings from 2.5m height, with reduced operator intervention.

The main innovation of the Roof Master 1.7KA is its patented fully automatic bolting mast. Unlike traditional rigs, the 1.7KA features a magazine holding 10 bolts and two drilling rods, installing both resin and mechanical bolts — 1.6m bolts in workings from 2.3m height, 1.8m bolts from 2.5m height.
An adaptive drilling system adjusts parameters to rock hardness up to 200MPa, while on-line parameter registration records bolting data in real time. The machine is also remote-operation ready.
During testing at KGHM Rudna, under good conditions with level, dry and non-stratified roofs, the Roof Master 1.7KA achieved a capacity of at least 12 expansion bolts per hour or 10 resin-bonded bolts per hour. The machine has a fully enclosed, ergonomic FOPS/ROPS-certified cabin, where the operator controls the process via a digital interface. The automation of the bolting process results in improved safety and comfort for the operator, the ability to work in difficult conditions, and better quality and repeatability of the process.
